(I’d not “acknowledge their headcanon generator” using the terminology of this thread.). This can lead to a lot of conflicts between character stories and a lot of headaches. While canon might be something we can all agree upon, obviously, your own personal changes to the lore aren’t. When we add the “head” onto the “canon” it changes it to mean an alternate belief about the stories or characters that exists in the head of the viewer.

Now a bit of background on myself and how I got involved with all of this. Like many I was left distraught and hopeless at the April 2014 announcement of the decanonization of the EU, and could find no place on the internet with anyone who loved and respected what we had lost. Seemingly everywhere were people spouting ridiculous claims about the EU that I knew were not true but had trouble arguing against since at the time I simply did not know what I know now. In the spectrum of superheroes  that ranges between “cosplayers that like to punch things” to “cosmic entity that barely acknowledges humanity exists”  my preferences are far closer to cosplayers, so I do know where you’re coming from.

Mal can’t make himself tell her, and Illidan is so freaking bad at it that he actively convinces her over and over again every week that he’s into Maiev, that weird girl who takes being a hall monitor very seriously. He’s wandering around at night in a disguise looking for their killer and fighting monsters and brigands as he does, he’s basically Batman. This one, headcannon generator in my opinion, is not dangerous for trans people unless it’s written with an extreme lack of tact. One of the best examples I can come up with is Haruhi from the anime and manga Ouran High School Host Club. From the beginning, she has a different view of gender because of the fact that her father is a trans woman (she still refers to herself as Haruhi’s father, so I’m going to stick with that). In fact, there are a lot of readings one can have of OHSHC where Haruhi is nonbinary.
